How and why we became

Our Story

Àdìrẹ & Aṣọ Òkè Culture

Crafted from heritage, designed for identity.

Our Mission

To craft wearable stories — garments that carry identity, heritage, and belonging into every room you walk into.

Our Vision

To become Africa’s most emotionally resonant fashion brand, where every outfit is a conversation starter about who we are and where we come from.

About Luz

LUZ Clothing designs pieces and fabrics around themes that give the act of dressing a deeper meaning. A firstborn child wears their print with pride. A mother wears hers on her celebration day. A father’s piece carries the weight of legacy.

Luz was founded by Ruth Ernest-Uzowuru in May 2026. Luz was born from a simple belief/philosopy: what we wear should tell the story of who we are.

Across Africa, many of us grew up carrying invisible titles—the firstborn who sacrificed, the father who carried everyone, the mother who held the family together. We learned responsibility before freedom, duty before dreams, and strength before being seen.

Yet those stories are rarely celebrated.

Luz exists to change that.

Luz, meaning Light, was inspired by God. Light was a name given to me for my son who was born July 2025. A year after, pressed with the desire to start a fashion business rooted in culture to express who we are, our roles and responsibilities. I realized light is what reveals what is hidden.

So Luz(light) became a better way to express a brand that has come to bring expression to our roots and identity. Simply because, Light does not create identity. It reveals it. In a world where trends tell us who to become, Luz exists to remind us of who we have always been. Our name means Light, because light uncovers beauty, reveals truth, and gives meaning to what would otherwise remain unseen such as who you truly are. Imagine entering that room with your wearable piece of art in the form of an outfit , that tells a lot about you even before you speak…..A child of God, Resilient go-getter, the lead child(if you’re a firstborn), the silent sacrificer, proud Igbo lady/man etc.

Our Craft

We source excellent plain fabrics(100% cotton Guinea, crepes, calico, cotton), assorted dye stuffs, and chemicals and wax bar, stencils, from local markets/vendors, constituting to a vital part of our ecosystem

We do batik foam stamp, free hand and customized.

Our team of local artists sketches their unique artwork on fabric by hand either by stamping or freehand. From sourcing to multiple rounds of hand waxing, dyeing, and de-waxing, each garment passes through a meticulous artisan process that can take several stages to perfect.

Our signature handwritten collections are created one word at a time, with every letter carefully written by hand using hot wax before dyeing. This dedication to traditional craftsmanship means no two pieces are ever the same.
After this rigorous process are the fabrics then transformed into a garment, tailored into pieces that speaks about the wearer, because we believe clothes speak volume of who we are.

Our creation is simply a wearable work of arts.
